Powell, Shelley Marie Johnson Mrs. – Obituary

Shelley Marie Powell, 43, a former Baker City resident, died of heart failure Sept. 21, 2007, surrounded by her loving family.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, 1911 S.E. Court Ave., in Pendleton. Burial will be at Olney Cemetery, 865 Tutuilla Road, with a reception at the church following the burial.

She was born May 23, 1964, at Baker City to H. B. “Bard” and Yvonne Johnson. She graduated from Baker High School in 1982, then attended Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande and graduated with a degree in teaching in 1986.

She married David Powell July 13, 1985, while they were both attending college. They had two beautiful children, Caden and Cassie.

Shelley worked for the Morrow County School District in Irrigon for approximately four years, and then ran an in-home day care in Pendleton from 1996-2002. She went on to work for the Milton-Freewater school district from 2003 to 2005. Shelley also served on the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority from 1999 to 2003.

Shelley is survived by her former husband, David Powell; son, Caden and daughter, Cassie; brother Scott Jonsson and his wife Maggie of Portland; sister Diane Walmer and her husband John of Spokane, Wash.; brother Erik Johnson of Baker City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents H. B. (Bard) and Yvonne Johnson Hochbrueckner; stepfather, Thomas Hochbrueckner; brother Paul Johnson and sister-in-law Ruth Johnson; and brother Christopher Johnson.
