Morin, Raymond Alton “Ray” – Obituary

Raymond Alton “Ray” Morin, 74, of Baker City died Feb. 23, 2006, at his home.

At his request, there will be no service. In the spring, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life.

Ray was born on Dec. 8, 1931, at Kellogg, Idaho. The family later moved to Oregon where he resided the rest of his life.

Ray loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and panning for gold.

He served his country, in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed at Korea, Japan and then Germany before coming home.

His life’s work was in construction and logging. At the time of his retirement, he and his wife of 34 years, Mary, were living at Ukiah, a place he really loved. There he could pan for gold and fish almost out his back door. They returned to Baker City in June 2005 to be closer to family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Laurie of Boise and Bruce and Pauline of Aloha; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jim Demastus of Baker City; sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Walt Clark of Sherwood; and sisters, Dee Petralia of Portland and Lona Crask of Baker City; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Pat of Baker City; brothers-in-law and their wives, Jerry “Bud” and Viola Howard of Baker City, Ken and Diana Howard of Cool, Calif., and Buzz and Dorothy Howard of Rockland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 12 nieces and eight nephews; and a devoted friend, Gary Bergstrom of Baker City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Nettie Morin; three brothers, Gordon, Warren and Bert; and his stepson, Ken Cavin.
