In memory of Jesse Jewell who died at Cove Oregon, April 25, 1894, age 53 years and 16 days.
Mr. Jewell was borne in Buttler county, Ohio, April 9, 1841, came to Illinois with his father, in the year ’59, residing there until the war 1861. He enlisted, at the age of 23, serving three years, then re-enlisting and serving until the close of the war, 1865.
He then married Miss Sarah Hetchler, September 21?, 1865, at Lincoln, Ill., uniting with the Methodist church at that place living there 11 years. He came to Cove, Oregon, 1876, where he has resided until his death. He joined the Baptist church at Cove, December 4, 1892, of which he has been a faithful member.
He was the father of 10 children – one having preceded him to the Heavenly home- five sons and four daughters, remaining. One daughter married, living at Enterprise, Oregon. He was an affectionate husband and loving father leaving a wife, 9 children and many friends to mourn his loss.
