Carl L. Nelson

Carl L. Nelson, 90, of Siletz and formerly of Union County, died Feb. 17 in Newport. A private family viewing took place Feb. 19 at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, followed by a celebration of life. A graveside service at the Summerville Cemetery will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Nelson was born Feb. 9, 1917, to Nels and Ethal Nelson in Elgin. He lived in the Elgin and La Grande area and served in the Army during World War II.

Carl worked for Dehnonte Seed for 32 years and was a member of the Western Teamsters Union. He retired and moved to Siletz in 1979 and worked at Mo’s in Newport for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Jean) of Siletz; daughters, Deanna Agan and Elaine Jones, both of Toledo, and Kay Shafer of Redmond; stepdaughters, Rhonda, Connie and Bonnie; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand children.
