Ralph Bacon Genealogy

This Bacon History is founded on facts handed down from one generation to another. These facts have been collected and compiled during the years 1907 to 1919 by Cassius F. Bacon (4) and Arthur L. Taylor (5). During this time, the Bacon family held a Family Reunion once each year. The first Bacon of the family, that they had any positive record of, was (1) Ralph Bacon the first, who at the time of an uprising in England, escaped in the garb of a Priest, to the Isle of Man. He later came to America and settled in Massachusetts. He was married and lived in one of the New England States the rest of his lifetime. They know that he raised four sons (2) Calvin, (2) Dexter, (2) Ralph and (2) William. Calvin never married. Dexter and Ralph married sisters by the name of Jourden. At this time, the family had moved to near Painsville, Ohio. (2) Calvin was born in 1773, Dexter in 1775, Ralph in 1777 and William in 1779.

The Bacon Family Genealogy descends the Bacon family tree through the children of Ralph Bacon, 2nd. Ralph was born in New York State abt the year 1777. At the age of 17, about the year 1794, he traveled to Painesville Ohio. Eventually acquiring some land there, he would marry Mary Jourden in 1801. In 1820 he moved his family to Crawford County, Ohio, owning houses and land in the townships of Liberty and Whetstone. His wife died 5 Oct 1845, he died 15 Jun 1849. This union would produce 13 offspring, twelve of whom would marry and raise families of their own. This Bacon Family Genealogy is their story.

As your viewing this manuscript, realize that the reliability of facts handed down from one generation to another is highly susceptible to err. The further the facts were from 1907-1919, and undocumented, the more likely they are to be incorrect. However, we feel that our readers can use this free material as a basis for their own family tree, and some of the stories passed down cannot be determined through life facts, and are invaluable to understanding our ancestors.
