Williams, R. R.

The following data is extracted from Hopkins County, Texas.

R. R. Williams emigrated from the state of Arkansas in the year 1866 and located in Black Jack Grove, where he has since lived. He married Miss Susan Ward at the age of twenty-two years, in Arkansas. Nine children were the result of this union, six of whom are living. They are all citizens of the county, live near their parents and are doing well. Mr. Williams descended from a long line of ancestors. He can trace his family name back to Roger Williams, he has taken an active part in the politics of his county, espousing the cause of Democracy, and has ever been steadfast in the faith. He has served his country as a soldier, and was faithful in the discharge of his duty. He commanded a company of cavalry scouts in front of Gen. Price's army. In the year 1864 he was captured by the northern troops, was condemned to be shot for guerrilla fighting, but later he proved that he was a Confederate soldier, and was consigned to prison. He took a prominent part in the reconstruction of Texas. He has lived for thirty-four years in Hopkins County, and during that time he has filled many honorable positions. In the year 1900 he was elected a member of the 27th Legislature of Texas, giving satisfaction to his constituents.
