The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

W. S. GILL was born in this county on July 9, 1838, and is a son of Coleman and Mary L. (Watkins) Gill. The father was born in Fauquier County, Va., in 1806, and came to Todd County in 1810 with his parents, who settled about one mile south of the Lasley Mill in this district, and there the latter died. The father, upon reaching manhood, turned his attention to farming, and settled near the mill; here he lived_ for upward of twenty years. He then moved to the south part of the precinct; here he lived until his death, which occurred on January 22, 1880. He was in his life-time a member of the Christian Church. The mother died on November 10, 1860. Subject is the third of eight children, three of whom are now living: W. W., in Logan County; Mrs. Lizzie Allensworth, of Haydensville Precinct, and W. S. The education of the latter was received chiefly in the schools of the county. He commenced life for himself at twenty-two, and then settled east of Allensville on a farm of 150 acres; he came to his present place in 1876; he now owns 300 acres of land, of which 275 are in cultivation; he also pays some attention to stock-raising. Mr. Gill was married in this district on March 8, 1860, to Miss Sallie Hughes, a daughter of E. W. Hughes, Allensville. Mrs. Gill was born in this county on October 15, 1841, and is the mother of eight children, of whom six are now living: Waltus H., now a lawyer in Palestine, Tex.; Lelia, wife of J. B. Small, Jr.; Hugh, Earnest, Ned and Emmett. Mr. Gill is a member of the Christian Church, and has been a member of the Good. Templar and Grange fraternities; he has served as School Trustee for a number of years. Mrs. Gill is a member of the Methodist Church, and is a graduate of the Clarksville Female Academy.
