BENJAMIN D. EDDINS was born in .Todd County, Ky., November 4, 1841, where he still retains his residence, though about one-third of his farm lies in Christian County. His father, Dulany Eddins, was born August 14, 1800, in Orange County, Va., and died in Todd County, Ky., July 24, 1864. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. The family are thought to have been of Scotch origin. Subject's mother, Susan S. Downer, of Culpeper County, Va., was born June 14, 1806, and died in Todd County, February 11, 1874. Her grandfather, Col. John Slaughter, of the Revolutionary war, was a grandson of Francis Slaughter, who settled in Orange County, Va., prior to 1730. Subject was educated at the select schools in the neighborhood, until the war seriously interfered with the prosecution of his studies. He has read many good books, and is also well versed in the current literature of the day. By vocation he is a farmer, owning 300 acres of valuable and productive land, which he manages with success in the cultivation of tobacco, wheat, corn and stock, and it has been remarked by his neighbors that the products his farm command the highest market price. He was married, October 1, 1874, to Miss Clara M., daughter of Rev. Samuel Baker, D. D., of Russellville, Ky. She was a graduate of the Evansville, Ind., High School, and died July 2, 1875. Subject is a * member of the Blue Lodge, and of the Moore Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, of Fair-view, Ky. He is also a member of the Grange; and while the organization existed, was a Good Templar. In religion he is connected with the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, and affiliates with the Democratic party in politics.
