Youmans, Davison L.

The following data is extracted from Muskogee And Northeastern Oklahoma.

Occupying public office ins Muskogee and previously in Kansas through a number of years, Davison L. Youmans has ever been found loyal to the trust reposed in him and has labored earnestly and effectively to advance public welfare and municipal progress. While born in the east the greater part of his life has been spent west of the Mississippi and he has ever been imbued with the spirit of western enterprise and progress which has been a dominant factor in the up building of this section of the country. A native of Pennsylvania, his birth occurred in Freemansburg, that state, October 30, 1866, his parents being William and Amanda (Lynn) Youmans, the former a farmer by occupation. The removal of the family to Kansas during the early boyhood of Davison L. Youmans enabled him to pursue his education in the public schools of Osawatomie and when his school days were over he started out in the business world in connection with the ice trade in Kansas. For some time he was engaged in ice manufacturing in Iola and in Olathe, Kansas, but disposed of his business there in 1919.
In April, 1903, he organized the Crystal Ice Company of Muskogee and carried on business under that style until 1911, when he established the City Ice & Cold Storage Company and through the intervening period to the year 1920 successfully conducted business. He then sold out, having in the meantime enjoyed an extensive trade which made his enterprise a profitable one. From that time to the present he has been active in public office. He served as a member of the park board of Muskogee for a number of years and was vice president of Honor Heights Park, the improvement of which cost the city one hundred and thirty thousand dollars, making this one of the beautiful parks of the southwest. In May, 1920, Mr. Youmans was made assistant city manager of Muskogee and is now filling that position. He served on the city council of Osawatomie, Kansas, for eleven years before coming to Oklahoma and at all times exercised his official prerogatives in support of plans and measures for the general good.
In 1893 Mr. Youmans was married to Miss Ella Bray of Osawatomie, Kansas, and during the period of their residence in Muskogee they have gained many warm friends, the hospitality of the best homes being freely accorded them.
Mr. Youmans is much interested in baseball and athletic sports, to which he turns when leisure permits. He is well known in Masonic circles, belonging to the Knights of Pythias and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, while in Masonry he has attained the Knights Templar degree of the York Rite and the thirty-second degree of the Scottish Rite, while with the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine he has crossed the sands of the desert to enter Bedouin Temple. He is likewise a member of the Rotary Club and is interested in all the plans and purposes of that organization for the development of trade, for the extension of business connections and for the maintenance of those interests which feature largely in municipal up building and public progress.
