The father and mother of Benjamin F. Hill were born and reared in Darlington County. At the time of Benjamin F. Hill's birth on June 13, 1854, they were living on their farm in Dooly County, Georgia, now Pulaski County, Georgia.

Benjamin F. Hill married Sallie Boatright, daughter of Raleigh and Elizabeth Boatright, in 1879. He has lived in the neighborhood in which he was born until the present time. To this union were born six children: Mary, Lula, George, Mamie, Joel, and James T., only four surviving. James T. Hill, better known as "Jim," and Mary, are the only two children residing in Pulaski County.

Jim was born November 25, 1891, in Whitfield District. He went to school at Friendship, and was taught industry and frugality by his parents. He was married on December 20, 1912, to DeLana Mixon, the daughter of Jessie and Nora Mixon, of Dooly County, Georgia.
Jim and DeLana spent their early married life on a farm in the neighborhood of his old home. To them were born eight children, six boys and two girls: Seaton, Bernard, J. T., Andrew, Rudolph, Ronald, Ray, and Syble.

In 1927, when his baby child was six weeks old, his home burned. He then located in Dupree District. While living here, he engaged successfully in merchandising in Finleyson, Georgia, for two years.

In 1930, he was elected sheriff of his county to fill the unexpired term of P. K. Ridley, deceased. On July 11, 1930, Jim moved his family to Hawkinsville. In 1933 he was reelected sheriff and is serving now. He is also engaged extensively in farming and stock raising, having bought a farm near the city limits of Hawkinsville on Route 28.
Benjamin F. Hill is a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Jim Hill belongs to the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville.
