Ocmulgee in 950 AD

By 950 AD the thriving town had expanded beyond its original palisade. Two leaders were buried together on a terrace to the west of the main village. A small mound was created over their graves. This was the beginning of the Great Funeral Mound or Mound C. A village devoted to funeral rites had begun around the small mound.
