From Dennis
It's amazing for me to see how far Access Genealogy has come in the past 10 years online. From what started out as a simple set of 50 state pages, has blossomed into over 250,000 pages, and millions of records. This feat couldn't have been accomplished without the assistance Judy and I received over the years by countless volunteers. We are indebted to each of you for your assistance in making this project what it has become! Thank You!
Access Genealogy is still run by the same two people who started it, and the occasional contract worker who assists us with multiple tasks. Compiling and presenting the amount of information and databases we have has been no small task, and we hope you enjoy our efforts.
Native American research has been greatly improved online by Judy and my relentless effort to provide quality data to the Native American researchers. Our data has differed from other efforts online by our understanding of what we've posted online, and how it relates to other data we have. Our ability to integrate the multiple databases such as we've done with the Final Rolls, makes our data more useful to the researcher. It's not just names researchers need, they also need to understand how that data plays into their ancestry.
It's important for you to understand, though we are known for our Native American data, we actually have more data for the regular American researcher, then we do Native American. We hope that our 10 year anniversary, and the new design we've released as well as the neat enhancements to the website coming soon, will provide you with an easier to use website, and a better understanding of our offerings.
From Judy:
Once
upon a time about 10 years ago, I submitted
some information to SurnameWeb, information
that was very important to me. In my opinion
Dennis was very slow in getting this
information posted on the site. I wrote and
asked him a couple times, why? Unless you
have received an email from Dennis, you
won't understand his answer "if I thought I
could do better, just let him know". Now,
his email didn't come right out and say
that, but if you read around the flowery
words, you got that impression. Never one to
walk away from a challenge, I wrote back and
said yes I could. That was to become the
beginnings of AccessGenealogy.
Our first real adventure into web site
building together, came with the Discover
Genealogy Web Ring, a site I suggested, and
he said build them, and they will come!!
When he said that I don't think he had any
idea just how little I knew about building
web pages. Dennis then suggested the state
pages that became AccessGenealogy. Between
the two of us we suggested, built, and
suggested some more and we are still
suggesting and building.
Both
of us have always had an avid interest in
books, Dennis first suggested we purchase
some old books and put them on line for
others to read. He created a real monster
with this idea, our walls are lined with
bookshelves, our computer areas have books
stacks, the floor and now we even have them
in storage!! Some day, we tell each other we
will have them all on line, however, that
will never happen if we don't stop buying!
Years and states separate this joint effort
but with computer neither of those matter.
