Brent Alden Stubblefield, 47, a former Baker City resident, was surrounded by his family when he died March 12, 2006, in Vancouver, Wash., after a short battle with cancer.

Brent was born on Nov. 11, 1959, at Baker City, the first child of Keith and Cheryl Culley-Stubblefield. During his childhood, he lived in Salem, Juneau, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1977 and later moved to the Portland-Vancouver area.
Brent worked for Safeway stores for many years while he attended college in Salem and Portland. He obtained his bachelor of science degree from Warner Pacific College in 1999. He was interested in computers and received extensive training in computer technology. Brent was in the process of completing his master’s degree in psychology when he passed away. He was employed by Clark County as a counselor and social worker. Through his work with Clark County, Brent helped many people overcome addiction.
Brent’s good nature and fun-loving spirit were well known by his family and his many friends. He always made us laugh. He was a friend to all and he always made sure that everyone was treated fairly.
Brent was an accomplished artist. He particularly loved wood carving, a craft he learned when he lived in Alaska. Brent always had music in his life, and he especially enjoyed The Beatles. He loved hiking in the Wallowa Mountains and the Columbia Gorge. He enjoyed kayaking, bicycling and rafting. He had a love of life that he shared with everyone in his life, especially his beloved dog, Moose.
Brent is survived by his parents, who live in Salem; his sister, Tami, and her partner, Michele, of Salem; his brother, Rick and his wife, Wendy, of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; his sister, Kimberly, of Portland; his nieces, Meachelle, Brittany and Kelsie; his nephews, Casey, Kelly and Ashton; his grandmother, Fern Culley of La Grande; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
