Sorensen, Andrew – Obituary

Andy Sorenson, 88, of Ellensburg, died Monday, April 20, 1992 at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital in Ellensburg . He was born in Ellensburg, Washington December 10, 1903, a son of Swan and Marguerite (Jensen) Sorensen. Mr. Sorensen graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1921 and the University of Washington in 1925. He has owned and operated his farm since 1925. He and Evelyn Colwell were married in Ellensburg on October 24, 1936. Mr. Sorensen was soil conservation Farmer of the Year in 1964, on the board of directors of the Ellensburg Water Company, president of the Kittitas County Dairymens Association and was later appointed by Governor Langley as president of the Washington State Dairy Commission. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Sorensen of Ellensburg; son, Henry Sorensen of Florida; daughter Christine Rosbach of Ellensburg; three grandsons and two granddaughters. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Marguerite Sablin of Seattle, and Amelia Sorensen of Seattle. Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 1992 at Steward and Williams Chapel in Ellensburg. Pastor Jack Chan will officiate. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. Sorenson, Nielsine ‘Sine’ Pedersen – Obituary

Mrs. Soren Sorenson, 77, a Kittitas Valley pioneer, died Tuesday [September 3, 1940] at the Ellensburg General Hospital following a two week’s illness. Born Nielsine Pedersen in Holme, Denmark, Sept. 10, 1862, she came to America at the age of 27, living in the state of Ohio for a short time before coming to the Kittitas Valley in 1889 with her brother, Peder Pedersen. On Oct. 29, 1890, she was married to Soren Sorenson, a prominent valley farmer. The first year of their marriage, they lived on the John Denton place in the Broadview District. Then they moved to their own farm in the Denmark District, where they lived until Mr. Sorenson’s death in 1931. Since then Mrs. Sorenson has made her home with her children. Surviving are six children, Mrs. Ralph [Bertha] Lynch , John O. Sorenson, Albert Sorenson, Mrs. Norman [Agnes] Richardson, and Harold Sorenson, all of Ellensburg, and Mrs. N. P. [Dorothea] Nylander of Seattle. There are also 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a brother, Peder Pedersen of Ellensburg and two brothers living in Denmark. Funeral services are being held from the Honeycutt Chapel this morning at 10:30 o’clock. Rev. W. H. Thompson will conduct the services. Honorary pallbearers will be pioneer friends of Mrs. Sorenson.
