Slater Sr., Roy – Obituary

Roy Slater Sr., 63, of Baker City, died Aug. 2, 2007, at his home.

A military inurnment was conducted Aug. 13 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

A celebration of life potluck is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roy Slater Jr.’s home. People planning to attend may call Gray’s West & Co., 523-3677, for directions.

Roy was born on Jan. 8, 1944, at Fairbury, Neb., to Luke Leroy Slater and Hattie Leona Rose.

Roy loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a member of the Baker City Christian Church.

He also loved his family and friends very much. Roy married Marian Wert in Stevenson, Wash., on Aug. 7, 1971. They couple had four sons and two daughters.

Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and just being outdoors, enjoying all things that God created.

He served in the U.S. Army through the Vietnam era.

Survivors include his wife, Marian; children, Robert Slater, Dan Slater and his wife, Laura, Torena Butler and her husband, Bob, Roy Slater and his wife, Jennifer, Tanya Wilson and her husband, Quentin, and Jess Slater and his wife, Tabitha; grandchildren, Christina, Jessica, Misti, Marlene, Paul, Luke, Shane, Maranda, Jenniffer, Sergio, Jeffry, Freddie, Jon, Alec, Gus, Clay, Chase, Hannah, Killian, McKenzie, Jillian, Delaney, Dominic and Ethan; brothers, Larry Slater, and his wife, Margaret, of Prineville; and Jack Slater and his wife, Glenda, of Portland; sisters, Monna Schmidt of Yamhill, Marie Renfrow of Mounds, Okla., Loretta Kelley of Bend, and Dorothy Slater of Prineville; his mother-in-law, Betty Wert; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans through Gray’s West & Co., 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
