Justus, Daniel S. “Bob” – Obituary

Daniel S. ‘Bob’ Justus, 84, Baker City, Ore., died Dec. 27, 2006, at his home with his family by his bedside.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Cremation was done by Gray’s West & Co. in Baker City.

‘Bob’ was born March 28, 1922, in Rye Valley, Ore., to Lula Head Justus and Rollie Justus. He was the 5th son in a family of seven. The only remaining sibling is Betty Coleman of Eagle Creek, Ore.

The family moved to Kellog, Idaho, when his father worked in the mines, but was killed in a cellar cave. The children went to school in Kellog.

Bob worked in Bremerton shipyards until he enlisted in the US Army. He served in the European theater and was discharged when the war ended.

He moved to Baker and worked in the Granite, Ore., mines. He met Pat Cassidy in Baker and they were married June 21, 1947. They celebrated their 59th anniversary in June of 2006. They had four children. Their first child, a daughter died, Sept. 17, 1949.

He worked as a mechanic in various garages and operated an Arco service station all in Baker City. His hobby in spare time was spent building his residence and then a log cabin in Eagle Creek which leaves a legacy for his family.

Bob is survived by his wife; three sons and their spouses, Dan and Rustie of Eugene, David and Jean of Baker City, Robert of Castle Rock, Wash.; grandchildren, Jesse, Daniel, Barry, Mistie; great granddaughter, MacKenzie; 11 nieces; three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Christopher.
