Conley, Frank Edward

Joseph, Oregon

Frank Edward Conley, 63, died at home in Joseph on June 30, 2005.

He was born May 22, 1942 to Merrell and Isabel Heger Conley in Cove and had lived in Joseph for the past 30 years.

Mr. Conley graduated from Cove public schools and attended Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, Eastern Oregon University and the University of Strasbourg – receiving degrees in mathematics, English literature and education. He owned businesses in construction, accounting, tax preparation and guiding.

He also worked in farming, as a high school teacher, a bartender in Sun Valley, an artisan, an office manager, in the foreign service visiting over 35 countries, as a receiving clerk and as a naturalist.

His interests included music, fishing, writing, hunting, jogging, hiking, theater, birds, butterflies and, above all, learning.

He is survived by his wife Susan, his sister and brother-in-law Mary Jane and Sonny Johnson of Cove, and many aunts, nieces, nephews, stepsons and stepdaughters and grandchildren.

There will be no service and his family requests, in lieu of flowers or gifts, that people take themselves – or someone else – “into the great outdoors and learn something about the fish, butterflies, elk, rocks or edible plants of this amazing world which surrounds us.”
