Private, Inf. and 35th Engineers, Co. C, 81st and Grand Div. of Eng.; of Sampson County; son of W. D. and Mrs. Emma Fryar. Entered service Oct. 3, 1917, at Rocky Mount, N.C. Sent to Camp Jackson, S. C. Transferred to Camp Grant, Ill., then to Camp Merritt, N. J. Sailed for St. Nazaire March 5, 1918. Did construction and railroad work while in France. Arrived in USA Dec. 30, 1918. Mustered out at Camp Gordon, Ga., Feb. 24, 1919.
