Rough Riders

Rough Riders
Colonel Roosevelt and his Rough Riders at the top of the hill which they captured, Battle of San Juan

Compiled military service records for 1,235 Rough Riders, including Teddy Roosevelt have been digitized. The records include individual jackets which give the name, organization, and rank of each soldier. They contain cards on which information from original records relating to the military service of the individual has been copied. Included in the main jacket are carded medical records, other documents which give personal information, and the description of the record from which the information was obtained.

Note: Soldiers were “Discharged by orders” for such reasons as being under age, lacking ability, being a chronic disciplinary problem, for transfer to another unit, for hardship at home. Soldiers were “Discharged for disability” when they were too ill or incapacitated to continue in service.

  1. Michael Merrill

Looking for an ancestor that fought in the Spanish American War . His real name was Frank Osgood Merrill . But due to technical consideration as the geneology says , he enlisted under the name Merritt with the cowboys out of Arizona. He was in troop b and I think went under the name of Frank M. Merritt.
