His parents, Thomas and Bridget (Finn) Cain, were both natives of Ireland. In 1878 the family removed to Champaign County and located on a farm in Colfax Township. The parents both died on that old farm. Their family of children consisted of six: Austin, deceased; James T. and Thomas, of Colfax Township; Mary Ann, wife of John Giblin of Colfax Township; Patrick H.; and Sarah, wife of Lawrence Gallagher, of Colfax Township.
