Discover your family's story. Enter a grandparent's name to get started. Start Now La Grande, Oregon 1923-2007 Edwin Leonard Craig, 83, of La Grande, died March 9 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Mr. Craig was born May 13, 1923, to Leonard Clinton and Marguerite Elizabeth (Kinsloe) Craig in Hutchinson, Kan. He was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, and graduated from high school in Rock Springs, Wyo. He married Norma Bluhm Aug. 7, 1942, and served in the Army during World War II. Norma died while he was stationed in France. On April 14, 1946, Mr. Craig married Sylva Fay Gilson in Rupert, Idaho. In 1954 they moved to La Grande, where he operated Craig’s Cleaners until he retired in 1986. Mr. Craig was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed boating and waterskiing with his family and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Sylva Fay Craig of La Grande; sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin B. and Lesta Craig of Montclair, Calif., John L. and Jody Craig of La Grande, Thomas A. and Teri Craig of Eastside, Steve A. and Rhonda Craig of Albany and Bruce D. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Halfway. A vault interment will follow at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland. A reception will take place at the New Bridge Grange. The Observer – August 12, 2008 _______________________________ Calvin Hugh Whitnah, 70, of Richland and formerly of La Grande, died Aug. 10 at his home. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the LDS Chapel in Halfway, with a viewing to run from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow at the Richland Cemetery. Friends and neighbors are invited to attend a memorial potluck at 5 p.m. Friday at Newbridge Grange. Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Calvin was born June 6, 1938, to Harvey Marshall and Clarice Ann (Harwood) Whitnah in Rupert, Idaho. Growing up in Richland, Calvin was active in 4-H, football, basketball, hunting and helping run the family ranch. Howland, Lawson A. – Obituary

Discover your family's story. Enter a grandparent's name to get started. Start Now Lawson A. Howland, 86, died Jan. 25, 2003, at the Weiser Rehabilitation and Care Center. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Idaho. Burial will be at Salubria Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Lawson was born and raised in Cambridge, Idaho. He attended grade school and high school in Cambridge and graduated in 1934. He lived with his parents on the family farm along Pine Creek about four miles northwest of the city. He was very active in sports throughout his childhood, competing in basketball, football, and boxing. The majority of his time during his school years was spent helping with the family farm operation. His father raised purebred Suffolk sheep and Lawson was very involved in all aspects of the business. Throughout his high school years he spent a good deal of time herding the bands of sheep in the mountains and foothills north of town. He was an accomplished sheep shearer and trimmer. Working on the shearing crews took him to the Salmon River and Snake River country, and to Montana as well as the local area in Washington County. A few days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, Lawson enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps....
