A gathering of friends and family will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Norma was born in Los Angeles in 1964. She lived and attended school in Lancaster, Calif., graduating from high school in 1964. Norma lived and worked in La Grande as a CNA. She loved to decorate any place she lived beautifully with her flower gardens, angels and collectibles. She loved the holidays and spending time with her friends and family. Her only grandchild, Broc Turley of La Grande, held a special place in her heart. Survivors include her children, Steven Maciej and his wife, Tina, of San Diego, Calif., and Cheryl Maciej, and her fiance, Alan Fortenberry, of La Grande; and brother, Dennis Williams of Tulsa, Okla. La Grande, Oregon Evalyn Lois Cross, 92, of La Grande, died Oct. 1 at a local care center. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande. Burial will follow at the Cove Cemetery. A viewing will be held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Daniels-Knopp. Evalyn was born April 11, 1917, to George and Olive (Haak) Kirkpatrick in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She moved to California in 1938 and married Harry Cross in 1943. They lived in Lawndale, Banning and then San Diego. Evalyn was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She helped her husband in his construction and rental properties business, and they also enjoyed traveling. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1974. She remained in San Diego and was a member of the arts and crafts group through the Unity Church until October 1981 when she moved to Portland to be near her son. While living in Portland she greeted and signed-in people for Loaves and Fishes for 10 years as a volunteer. Her hobbies included traveling and making needlepoint pictures and pillows, which she gave to friends and family. She also made three hooked rugs for Timberline Lodge. Grant Jackson, 72, formerly associated with the Dain manufacturing Co. in Ottumwa, died Tuesday [July 14, 1953] at the home of his son, Warren Jackson at Chugwater, Wyo. His home is in Pasadena, Calif. He was born in October of 1880 in the Fremont community. He moved from Ottumwa to Chugwater in 1912, going to Pasadena about 10 years ago. Survivors include his wife, the former Susie Pedrick of Ottumwa; two sons, two daughters, and a sister, Mrs. Daisy Storm, Bentonsport. ————————————————- Double funeral services were held last Friday, July 17, at the Iowa Flats Church for Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jackson who passed away within two days of each other. Mr. Jackson’s death occurring on Tuesday, July 14 and his wife succumbing two days later on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were former residents of the Iowa Flats community, having settled there in 1912. In 1940 they retired and moved to California to make their home. The couple had returned to Wyoming on June 22 from their Pasadena home for a visit with their children, Warren P. Jackson and Mrs. Earnest Rhoades of Chugwater. Final rites were held in Shelton Saturday for Mrs. Minnie Leake, 79, pioneer daughter of Mason county, who died last week [October 7, 1947] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Madge Haig, in Altadena , Calif. Her husband, Charles Leake, of the pioneer Thomas Webb family, who died in 1946, was employed for 30 years by the Merrill & Ring company, loggers, and the couple lived in Seattle. Deceased was a granddaughter of William M. Morrow, who brought his family from Iowa in 1854 and located at Oakland on a donation claim, the year after David Shelton settled in Shelton.
