He was born at Irondale, Washington County, Missouri, and was reared in Reynolds County, where his parents, James and Nancy (Johnson) Allison, passed the closing scenes of their lives. The father following farming on Block River and was a soldier in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Both parents died in 1870.
