Gray, 82, died Saturday evening at his home at 1240 Baltimore Avenue. A retired employe of The Shevlin – Hixon Company, he was a Bend resident for 30 years. A native Oregonian, Mr. Gray was born Nov. 24, 1877, at Lostine, in Wallowa County. He is survived by his wife, Sallie, at the home address: two daughters, Ladesca (Mrs. Elmer) Brown, Bend, and Willa Crockett, Tangent, and three sons: Arell H. Gray, Cathlamet, Wash.; Thorval Gay, Lostine; Berrell [Verell] W. Gray, Dillard. There are 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Edna Mitchell, Union. Start Now Joseph, Oregon Buena Williamson Buena Jean Williamson died September 4, 2005, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Wash. She was 71 years old. Mrs. Williamson was born Feb. 20, 1934 in Bend, Oregon to Arthur and Grace Barton. She graduated from Joseph High School in Joseph in 1952. She married Wayne Williamson on June 21, 1952. For many years she worked as a sales clerk and later a bank teller. In the 1990’s she worked at the Wallowa County Museum, where she specialized in antique clothing. Mrs. Williamson loved spending time camping and being in the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her husband and sister, and is survived by her children Mona Kay and Bill Williams of Joseph, Karen and Lee Zollman of Walla Walla, WA, her sister Aleene Alford, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlene and Dallas Williamson, grandchildren Clint Williams, Jared Williams, Lynn Zollman, Allison Hind, Nicholas Zollman, and her great-grandchild Alexis Williams. She had been ill for the last month. Graveside services were held Sept. 4 in Burns Cemetery. Roberta was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Wallowa to Elmer and Bessie (Scott) Southwick. She was raised and educated in Wallowa. Roberta married Edward Bradley May 18, 1940, in Weiser, Idaho. She lived in La Grande and Wallowa area with her husband until they moved to Burns in 1962, when he got a job with the forest service. He preceded her in death in 1981. Her children, Sue Graham of Gilchrist, Gary Bradley and wife Cindy of Pendleton, and Reta Herrera and husband Ed of Burns; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren survive Roberta. Barbara was married on Dec. 19, 1943, at Salem, to Bernard R. Monaghan. They spent more than 40 happy years of their life together until Bernard’s death in 1984. He spent his childhood in Mount Shasta, Calif., and completed high school in Klamath Falls. His early interests included music, astronomy, electronics and mechanics. He earned degrees in music and education from Whitman College in Walla Walla. While attending Whitman, he met Karen Bergstrom of Yakima, and they married Dec. 18, 1965. The couple moved to La Grande where Larry taught music at the junior high school. After four years of teaching, Larry changed careers. The couple moved to Portland where Larry attended Portland State University, earning a master’s degree in geology. In 1972 the family moved to Bend where he began a career in geology with the U.S. Forest Service. He had special interest in the volcanology of Central Oregon. He retired in June 2007 after 35 years as the geologist for the Deschutes National Forest. He was instrumental in creating the Newberry Volcanic National Monument. Autumn Funerals in Bend is in charge of arrangements. She was born Sept. 30,1912, to John and Barbara Kline in Vancouver, Wash. She married Verne A. Allen May 31, 1941. They moved to La Grande in September 1960. During the next 20 years she worked for several doctors and the Saint Joseph Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. During that time she became involved with the La Grande Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband and with her female friends. She and Verne were regulars at the Tuesday night golf game and potluck. She also loved to go camping anywhere there was a creek or river. Her other hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles. In June 1989 they moved to Pacific City on the coast. In 2001 she moved to Bend where she remained until her death. She still has friends living in La Grande.
