Henry L. Finley, Early Wallowa Co. Settler, Dies

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Milton Christian church for Henry L. Finley who passed away Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. Truman Robbins, local pastor, was in charge of the services and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moore of Athena sang “No Night There” and Beyond The Sunset”.

Pall Bearers were the four grandsons: Joe Wise, Melvin Schott, Fred Zielke, Donnie Scott and two great-grandnephews, Jack Loyd and Bill Morse. Burial was in the 100F cemetery at Milton.

Henry Finley was born at Murray, Kentucky, May 11, 1873. He was married to Lula Ann Wynn at Marray, Kentucky, March 29, 1893. They were among the early settlers of Wallowa County coming to Oregon in 1910 where they reared their family, making their home in Wallow, Flora, Enterprise, and Troy where Mr. Finley was engaged in farming, usually dairying. In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Finley moved to Milton where they have since resided. Two years ago, March 29, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house held at the Milton Christian church, of which he was an active member.

Mr. Finley is survived by his widow, three sons; Daniel of Milton, Wynn of Rosalie, Washington, and Sherman of Kaiserslautern, Germany; and three daughters; Mrs. Lillie Scott of Wallowa, Oregon, Mrs. Marye Richman of Troy, Oregon, and Mrs. Louise Dawson of Portland, Oregon. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One daughter, Effie Wise, preceded him in death. All his children were present for the funeral except Sherman.
