Hoffman, Ward John – Obituary

FREMONT–Ward J. Hoffman, 86, of Fremont, died Friday, March 2, 1990 at the Mahaska Manor in Oskaloosa. He was born Dec. 3, 1903 in Constantine, Mich., the son of John Luther and Carrie Bishop Hoffman.

He moved to Iowa in 1913 and attended Fremont High School. He married Merle Phillippe on July 5, 1929 in Oskaloosa; she died April 23, 1989. He had been a farmer and his farm is recognized as a Century Farm. He was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, and had been a member of the Fremont Lions Club.

He is survived by one son, Willis Hoffman of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, and three sisters-in-law, Vesta Linsley and Marie Linsley, both of Hedrick, and Faye Simmons of Oskaloosa. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Pippert officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Fremont Rescue Unit or the Fremont United Methodist Church. A private graveside service will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cedar Township Cemetery.
