About Nevada, U.S., Marriage Index, 1860-1987

This database contains information on individuals who were married in select areas of Nevada between 1860 and 1987. Note that not all counties are included in this index and within the counties that are included not all years within the specified year range may be covered. Information that may be found in this database for each individual includes their name, spouse's name, spouse's gender, marriage date and location, county and state in which the marriage was recorded, residence of bride and groom, and source information. Marriage records are great sources for genealogists because they document an individual in a particular place and time as well as provide details about that person's marriage.

It is important that you use the information found in this database to locate your ancestor in the original records that this index references. Usually more information is available in the records themselves than is found in an index. For example, marriage records sometimes provide the birth dates and places of the bride and groom, their parents' names, their addresses, and witnesses' names, in addition to the information found in this index.

Most of these marriages were extracted from county courthouse records. However, some Nevada marriages came from the following four churches:
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Nye County, Nevada
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Storey County, Nevada
St. John's Episcopal Church, Storey County, Nevada
Christ Episcopal Church, Lincoln County, Nevada.

You can find copies of many of the county marriage records in the county courthouses where they were recorded, or in state or local archives. Marriages extracted from the Episcopal Church records are available through the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 North Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89503, 702-688-1190. The Episcopal Diocese of Nevada donated these records to the Nevada Historical Society.
