    This database is an index to deaths reported in Moniteau County newspapers, located in the small town of California in Missouri, from 6 October 1858 to 31 December 1931. Prior to 1890 the California Newspaper was a four-page weekly paper. It was published under several names until 1872 when it became the California Democrat. The California Democrat was an eight- to twelve-page paper printed on Thursdays. In addition to this newspaper, deaths recorded in issues of the Central Missouriian are included in this index. Deaths reported in these newspapers took place not only in Moniteau County—many of the deaths reported took place throughout the state as well as the country, as reported deaths included relatives of residents, former residents, and current residents of Moniteau County. Information contained in this index includes name of deceased, age at time of death (or birth date), date of death, and date of newspaper report.
