About Georgia Historical Collections

This database contains a collection of documents relating to the history and antiquities of Georgia. This work is not meant to be a chronological history, but rather it is a collection of documents intended to aid other historians. Documents and other material found within this database includes names of officers and soldiers who went to Mexico, treaties held with Indians, Revolutionary documents, the names of persons who were allotted land, extracts from the minutes of the trustees, the charter of the Colony of Georgia, biographical sketches of distinguished Indians, and sketches of each county (providing information on climate, extracts and statistics from the 1850 census, the names of first settlers of the county, etc.). This work would be a valuable tool for people whose early ancestors lived in Georgia because it provides so much information about the state and also on individual people.
