About South Carolina, U.S., Newspaper Marriage Notices, 1732-1801

One of the first newspapers in the state, the South Carolina Gazette was an important source of news to residents in and around Charleston in the eighteenth century. This database, reproduced from the original book published in 1902, is an index to marriage notices in the newspaper between 1732 and 1801. Each entry includes the names of both bride and groom along with the date the notice appeared in the newspaper. Most records also provide the marriage date and the name of the bride's father. In some cases residence information is included. For researchers of early South Carolina ancestors, this database can be helpful and informative.
