About Kansas Election List, 1854

In the midst of the American slavery debate, Kansas became a territory in 1854 and federal authorities organized an election of territorial officials. This database is a voter lisiting taken from a special committee report to Congress in 1856. It provides the resident's name along with city, district, and precinct or township where they were registered to vote. Page numbers are included to aid the researcher in finding the original record. Including the names of over 3200 persons, this collection can be a great aid to those seeking early Kansan ancestors.
