About Boone County, Missouri Obituaries, 1902-13

One of the oldest counties in the state, Boone County, Missouri was home to over 30,000 people in 1910. At the time, the Columbia Missouri Herald was the most important newspaper of the area, including the five nearby counties of Audrain, Callaway, Cooper, Howard, Monroe and Randolph. This database is a collection of nearly 5000 obituaries published in the newspaper between 1902 and 1913. Researchers will find the name of the deceased, date of birth or age, and the issue date of the obituary. Locations in the birth field indicate birthplace. In addition, the newspaper, in 1892, began running an "In History" section where obituaries from 1819-1841 were reprinted, and many of these older obituaries are also included. Copies of the original newspaper can be obtained via inter-library loan from the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia for a nominal handling charge. To those seeking ancestors from Missouri in the early 20th Century, this can be a useful source of information.
