About New York, U.S., Veteran Burial Cards, 1861-1898

This database contains images of index cards listing burial locations for about 15,000 veterans buried in the state of New York.

What You Can Find in These Records

Cards in this collection from the New York State Military Museum list the burial locations of approximately 15,000 soldiers in New York. The bulk of the cards are for soldiers who served in the Civil War, but you can also find soldiers who served in other conflicts:

  • Revolutionary War
  • War of 1812
  • Mexican American War
  • American Indian wars
  • Spanish American War
  • World War I
  • other conflicts or no conflict given

The museum does not know who created the cards or why, but the cards may list name, burial location, war served in, type of marker, and sometimes service information such as dates and rank.

This is not a comprehensive collection of all veterans’ burial sites in New York.
