Sorenson, John O. – Obituary

John O. Sorenson, 57, prominent Kittitas Valley farmer, died this morning at his home in the Denmark District. In poor health for some time, he had been seriously ill the past month.

Sorenson was a native son of the valley. A son of the late Soren Sorenson, a valley pioneer who came here from Aarhus, Denmark and Nielsine Pedersen Sorenson, he was born here May 13, 1893. He had lived all his life in the valley.

An active community worker throughout his adult life, Sorenson had been identified with scores of agricultural and civic enterprises. He was active in the organization of the Kittitas County Dairymen’s Association and the Mid-State cooperative, served on the board of the Yakima Valley Production Credit Association, the Cascade Irrigation District and the Washington Wool Growers Association, was active in the movement for the High Line Canal and took part for many years in the work of the Kittitas County Farm Bureau.

He was an officer of the Ellensburg National Guard company which trained at American Lake a few weeks in the fall of 1918.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Flora Sorenson; three sons, Robert, Jack, and Don Sorenson, all of Ellensburg; eight grandchildren, two brothers, S. Al Sorenson, a Kittitas County Commissioner, and N. Harold Sorenson, both of Ellensburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Lynch of Ellensburg and Mrs. Dorthea Nylander of Seattle.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Honeycutt-Evenson Chapel., with Rev. H. W. Guscott officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
