Schnebly, Blanche Lorraine – Obituary

Blanche Lorraine Schnebly, 85, of Ellensburg passed away on Monday, April 1, 1996 at Royal Vista Care Center in Ellensburg. She was born on November 4, 1910 in Ellensburg, Washington, a daughter of Joseph Jay and Elizabeth (Barnhart) Schnebly.

Lorraine is a graduate of Ellensburg High School, of St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, Spokane, Washington and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Washington, Seattle. For eight years she served as Director of the School of Nursing and Nursing Services at the British American Hospital in Lima, Peru.

During World War II, she was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps where she was assigned to overseas duty. Following the war she was a member of the United Nations World Health Organization for sixteen years. She was assigned to duty in San Jose, Costa Rica for five years and spent eleven years in Cordoba and Buenos Aires in the Republic of Argentina.

After retirement, she returned to Ellensburg, where she was a co-owner with her sister-in-law, Mary Alice Schnebly of Sports Boutique, a woman’s apparel shop.

Lorraine is survived by her sister, Doris Clymer of Issaquah, Wa.; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Schnebly of Ellensburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph C. Schnebly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 1996 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Ellensburg, Washington. Father Perron J. Auve will be officiating. Refreshments will be served after the funeral services at the church. Interment will follow at a later date at IOOF Cemetery.
