James Bowman Passed Away In His Cheney Home. Father Of Twenty-One Children, Thrice Married, A Dweller In Pennsylvania, In Virginia, In Kansas, And In Washington-Sister And Four Brothers Living.

Cheney, Wash., Jan. 31-James Bowman died at his home in this city at 1:30 yesterday afternoon of pneumonia, at the age of 94 years 2 months and 12 days [January 30, 1901].

Mr. Bowman was born in Pennsylvania, November 18, 1806. The early part of his life was spent in Pennsylvania and Virginia, after which he moved to the west central states. He had been married three times, and is the father of 21 children, 10 of whom are living. While living in Virginia, he was married, at the age of 30 [about 25 years old], to Rachael Anderson, who died some years after. The second marriage was to Julia Young, who also died. In 1857 in Iowa, he was married to Mrs. Mary E. Ghole [Mary Ellen Varner], who survives him, aged 69. In 1876 he moved from Kansas to the coast, and for the past 19 years has made Cheney his home. He was a mechanic, but has followed different vocations during the long life which yesterday came to a close. One sister and four brothers still survive, residing in the central states. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the Methodist church, the obsequies being conducted by Rev. D. W. Raines, assisted by Rev. F. B. Doane. A short service will be held at the residence before proceeding to the church.
