Adams County Indiana Marriage Records

Search by Surname

Introduction

Original marriage records are located in the county seat where the marriage took place. This dataset contains approximately 330,000 records of Indiana Marriages to 1850.

The following counties were excluded due to the unavailability of records prior to 1850, these include: Clay, Jasper, Madison, Newton, Noble, Starke, and part of Sullivan. In addition to the courthouse listings this database includes marriages appearing in the Abstracts of Records of the Society of Friends in Indiana compiled by Willard Heiss and those noted in "St. Francis Xavier parish church in Vincennes, Indiana" which date from 1749.

This dataset is designed as an identification tool. The marriage return of the period does not give parents names, usually only the bride and groom and person performing the ceremony may be cited. The marriage application process did not begin until the latter part of the 1800's in Indiana.
