Richard A. Savage, 72, a former Baker City resident, died April 13, 2007, after a 14-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church at Allen, Texas.

Richard was born in 1935 at Walla Walla, Wash., to “Spud” and Nan Savage. He was the oldest of five children.

He was a 1954 Baker High School graduate and attended Eastern Oregon College (now Eastern Oregon University) at La Grande where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He later earned his MBA.

Richard served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division and then began his engineering career at Pacific Northwest Bell (US West) where he worked for 27 years. Throughout his career, Richard took on various leadership roles in a number of community and service organizations.

In 1998, Richard and his wife moved from Portland to Plano, Texas, to be near their daughters and grandchildren. He will be remembered for the faithfulness and humility with which he served God, his church and his friends, his family said.

Survivors include his wife, Deanne; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Bryan Yee, and their children, Mark, Luke and Eric; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Scott Carter, and their children, Ainsley and Davis; brother, Robert, and his wife, Marie, of Baker City; sisters, Judy Vancil, and her husband, Bob, of Redmond, Janet Norton and her husband, Bill, of Visalia, Calif., and Nancy Murray and her husband, Paul, of Seattle, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society at 3003 LBJ Fwy., Suite 125-E, Dallas, Texas 75234 or the Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church Building Fund at 1015 SH 121, Allen, Texas 75013.
