1757, May 26, Paper from King Hagier

A Coppy of a Paper from King Hagier of the Catawbers to the Little Carpenter
May 26th 1757 Directed to Captain Raymond Demere

This is from the Governour of Virginia to the King of the Catawbers to Send his Brothers the dCherokees word, this Wampum is to the Little Carpernter, and he hopes that you and your head men will Send as many of your People as you can Spare to Afsist our Brothers the whit People against the French and there Indians, and you brought the Hatchette here and wanted our people to go to Warr, and we took the hatchett, and we have been at warr, & killed four Savannahs & we lost two of our people and three white men and our people Likes going very well to war against the french and Indians we went to the french fort and saw it, we know where it tis very well, we came home and tjold our Kiing of it and his head men, and we are gone to Warr against the french, & Indians we are now gone to Cumberland fort and we hope you & your men will follow us & meet us at Cumberland fort in Virinia, the Path is plain between us to pafs and the pafs from one to another to See one another we are Brothers, all one Body that come from one Women.
