Note: There was a disposition on the part of Dulaney to contest the Wills of the aforesaid, and my Father wishing to settle it, filed a Bill in Chancery Court and had the Wills construed by the Court and a decree entered settling the differences, and thereby destroying all probability of a lawsuit, which Dulaney seemed to threaten, or did threaten. This was the best means devised to save the heirs in the future the possibility of going to law over the estate of these deceased individuals-F.D. Love,

3) Lucinda Gudger; m. William Johnston, whose son Thomas Dillard Johnston was Congressman from the Asheville District for several years.

6) Gallatin Gudger; m. Margaret Alexander.
7) Dillard Franklin Gudger; m. Mary Hawkins
8) Adolphus Gudger; m. Alfa Penland; 4 children-Henry, Lamar, Alfa & Kittie.
9) Montrevill Gudger; m. in Tennessee.
10) Lorenza Gudger; m. Miss Lothridge of Murray County, Georgia.

1) James (Black Jim, lawyer and wit) Gudger; m. Fanny Parry, and by her has three children, towit; Walter, Eugene-who married Lindsey-children-Frances and Estalle
2) John Gudger; m. Miss Martin Barkersville, N.C.
3) Lizzie Gudger; m. Mr. Alexander, no children.
4) Rena Gudger; m. James Engle, Asheville N.C.
5) Benjamin Gudger; m. in Asheville, died-has a family.
6) William J. Gudger; m. Emma Gifford, niece of Landon O. Haynes, her Mother was a Taylor. They live in Marshall, N.C. and have three children, towit: Roy, Mary and Evaline.

Children of Lucinda Gudger, who married William Johnston who was born in Down
County, Ireland, and by him had the following children.
1) Harriette Johnston; m. Dr. Gibson of Jonesboro, Tenn-no children.
2) Robert Johnston; M. Nora Pulliam, and by her had six children, towit: (a)Robert -of the U.S. Navy-m. daughter of Robert W. Garrett of Asheville (b) William, not married (c)Harold (d)Fanny (e)Lucy (f)luara.
3) Matthew Johnston-never married, b. March 20th 1838, living in Asheville
4) Maria Johnston; m. William Cooke, both dead, but by him she had the following children, towit: (a) William, living in Asheville-no children, is District Solicitor (b) Nellie (dead) m. Dr. Carl Reynold, and by him had one child (c) Phillip, who married Ada Gudger the daughter of Hezekiah Gudger, and by her has several children-names not known (d) Jerry (e) Timothy (f)Eugene (g) Mattie Ella Johnston
