In the issue for Wednesday, February 21, 1781, the following announcement
appeared:
HIS MAJESTY having been pleased to appoint ROBERT WELLS and SON his Printers in
South Carolina; this Paper will be published, after the first of next Month,
under the Title of THE ROYAL GAZETTE, which it shall be the constant Study of
the EDITORS to render worthy of the Publick Favour. It is requested that those
in Arrears for this Paper, will immediately discharge the same.
No. 1. of Volume I. of The Royal Gazette appeared March 3, 1781, and its
publication ceased some time prior to the British evacuation of Charles Town in
December, 1782.
