Germond, Mary Kathleen Sherman Mrs.

The following data is extracted from Baker County, Oregon Obituaries.

Mary Kathleen Sherman Germond, 71, of Baker City, died Sept. 2, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho, after a short illness.

Her memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 975 S. Bridge St.

Cremation was handled by Coles Funeral Home of Baker City.

Mary was born at Ontario on Aug. 31, 1936. Her parents were William Sherman and Bertha "Peggy" Emerson Sherman.

She attended school in Baker City until the age of 15 at which time she moved to Castle Rock, Wash., to live with her uncle and aunt.

She married Don Germond on July 3, 1955, and they lived on a small farm at Castle Rock where she enjoyed making a home for Don and her children.

In 1984 they moved to Ely, Nev., where she enjoyed ice fishing and trout fishing. In 1990 they moved to Fallon, Nev., and finally in 1994, she moved back home to Baker City.

Mary was a kind, loving person who loved to help others. She became a caregiver to many families in Baker City. Her first job was to help Martha Huffman and they became great friends. They would go to McDonald's for coffee and dunked their doughnuts.

Her family tells this story of Mary's last days of friendship with her best friend, Martha, 84, of The Dalles: "When Martha learned of Mary's illness she knew that if she wanted to see her she would have to do it soon, so she and her son started for Boise late in the day. She arrived at St. Luke's at 2 a.m. from The Dalles to say her goodbyes to her dear friend. She returned to The Dalles after visiting Mary to have a pacemaker implant — what a wonderful friend."

Mary was a loving wife and mother. She was also a devoted sister and enjoyed family outings. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Don of Baker City; sons, Michael of Castle Rock, Wash., and Patrick and his wife, Jennifer, of Craig, Colo.; two daughters, Ruth Ann and her husband, Robert Rogers, of La Pine, and Brenda Lee and her husband, Billy Buck, of Castle Rock, Wash.; three brothers William Sherman and his wife, Madonna, James Sherman and his wife, Rita, of Boise, Idaho, and Richard Sherman and his wife, Arlene, of Baker City; one sister, Barbara Sherman of Baker City; sisters-in-law Lois Jenkins and Evelyn Algers; 11 grandchildren, Brandy, Debbie, Robert, Nicole, Cheyanne, Jason, Rochelle, Hannah, Harley, Brook and Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Issac, Ely and Shashi; her best friend, Martha Huffman of The Dalles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Billy Payton Cancer Fund in care of Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
