Kimbrough, W. L.

The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

W. L. KIMBROUGH was born September 18, 1824, in Todd County; he is a son of T. Winston and Susan (Graves) Kimbrough. The parents were born in Albemarle County, Va. The father came to Christian, now Todd, County in 1797; he first purchased a small quantity of land, and at the time of his death, which occurred in 1868, he had increased this to over 2,000 acres, largely improved. The mother died in 1844, aged forty-six. Our subject at the age of twenty-two commenced farming on land given him by his father; this business he has since followed. In 1850 he engaged in merchandising in Allensville; this business he continued three years. In 1866 he opened a dry goods store at Hadensville; continued this business twelve years, since which time he has been engaged exclusively in agricultural pursuits. His residence was completed in 1860, and is one of the finest in the precinct-cost about $17,000. He also owns about 1,900 acres of land here, well improved, besides considerable property in Texas and Virginia. Mr. Kimbrough commenced life a comparatively poor man; he is now in affluent circumstances, all of which he has acquired by strict attention and a thorough management of business. He was married in 1852 to Miss P. B. Terry, of Logan County, Ky.; this lady died in 1880, leaving four children-two sons and two daughters. Mr. K. has held the office of Magistrate ten years; he is also a member of the Masonic fraternity.
