Riley, John W.

The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

JOHN W. RILEY. This gentleman, who is a son of James Riley and Mary A. (Rose) Riley, was born in Logan County, Ky., June 18, 1855. He was reared on his father's farm in his native county, where his parents are still living; was educated in the Browder Institute, and is now devoting himself to the pursuits of agriculture with marked success. He came to Todd County in 1878, and the following year purchased of John L. Atkins the farm on which he now lives; his farm, one of the best stock farms in the county, consists of 254 acres of improved land, situated on the Allensville and Elkton road, midway between those towns. Mr. Riley is one of those aggressive, public-spirited young farmers who has only to be known to be appreciated. He is not only giving attention to general farming, but is doing much toward the improvement of the stock of his county. In 1875, in Logan County, Mr. Riley was married to Miss Eddie A. Rutherford, daughter of Ham and Permelia Rutherford, (nee Adams). Mrs. R. was born in Logan County, November 22, 1855. Her parents are now residents of Logan County. The marriage of Mr. Riley has resulted in the birth of two children: Norma, born August 30, 1876; Napoleon Riley, born February 22, 1881. Both Mr. and Mrs. Riley are members of the Allensville Christian Church. In politics Mr. R. is a Democrat, and is the Collector of Tax for the Allensville & Elk-ton Turnpike Company.
