Gill, G. H.

The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

G. H. GILL (deceased) was born in this county on February 2, 1841, and is a son of Coleman and Mary (Watkins) Gill. The parents were natives of Virginia, and came to this county when children. Subject was the fourth of a family of eight children, of whom three are now living. His education was received in this and Montgomery County (Tenn.). When about twenty-one he enlisted in Capt. McLaine's Company, under Gen. Morgan, and remained in the service three years. Returning to this county, he resided on the home farm for a number of years. In 1880 he came to the farm now occupied by his widow, and at the time of his death owned 350 acres. In 1877 he purchased an interest in Graham's Mill, and ran it in connection with Thomas Graham until the fall of 1880, when the latter sold out his interest. Mr. Gill then continued its operation. Mrs. Gill now has it in charge. It is a water-power mill, and is valued at $6,000. Subject served as Magistrate of the county, and was a consistent member of the Christian Church, as is also his wife. He was married on April 19, 1866, to Miss Douie Mallory, a daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Williams) Mallory. The father was a native of Virginia, the mother of North Carolina. They came to Robertson County, Tenn., where they resided. The father died in 1850, the mother in 1863. Mr. G. H. Gill died on March 3, 1882, leaving a family of six children-five sons and one daughter-to mourn his loss. Mrs. Gill is at present carrying on the home farm.
