Harrel, George A., Dr.

The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

DR. GEORGE A. HARREL, Trenton, was born October 24, 1841, in Todd County, Ky., where he was reared and entered service as Lieu-tenant of Cavalry in the late war, where he remained eighteen months. His father, William C. Harrel, was a native of Nelson County, Ky., where he was born in 1812; removed to Todd County, 1820, and in 1872 migrated to Missouri, where he is still living; he is the son of Isaac, of Nelson County; Isaac was the son of Moses Harrel. Subject's mother, Caroline C., daughter of Alexander and Mary (Frazer) McElwain, of this county, was born in 1819, and died in 1865. Their children are: Subject, James T., Augusta T., William I., Ephraim P., John M., Lee T. and Mary Bell. Subject was favored with a good education, having spent four years as a student in Bethel College. In 1859, he commenced the study of medicine with Dr. S. H. Sullivan, of Trenton; read one year with Dr. J. S. Miller, of Keysburg, attended lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, N. Y., in 1864. He commenced the practice of his profession in Trenton, Ky., where he has met with great success, and at present resides. December 13, 1865, Dr. Harrel was married to Miss S. Ellen, daughter of Alex T. and Harriet (Ederington) Byars, of Todd County, Ky., and to them have been born five children viz.: George W. (deceased), Sandy B., Ellen (deceased), Sallie M. and William C. Dr. Harrel is the owner of a good farm, which he rents to tenants. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Baptist and a Democrat.
