The following data is extracted from Counties Of Todd And Christian, Kentucky - Todd.

D. L. BAILEY, farmer, living in Elkton Precinct, southeast from Elkton, Todd County, was born April 1, 1850, on the farm where he now lives. This family, which is one of the most extensively known in the county, is spoken of by a previous writer as coming to Todd County as early as 1809. The father of D. L. Bailey, whose name was Charles A. Bailey, was born September 2, 1798; attained his manhood in Todd County, and married Elizabeth L. Jones; then settled on the farm now owned and occupied by the subject of this sketch. Here in this desirable spot they lived and labored, soon opened up an extensive farm, to which they added as they were able; and here, too, they died; she, September 27, 1856, and he, October 27, 1874. Elizabeth L. was born in Casey County, Ky., December 31, 1809; her mother, Ann C. Jones, was born August 12, 1788, and died at the residence of C. A. Bailey, September 24, 1856. Charles A. Bailey was noted for his upright life, and his death was mourned by a large circle of friends, who admired him for his many noble qualities, and by the Masonic order, of which he was an honored member for many years. His wife, Elizabeth L. Bailey, was an accept-able member of the Christian Church. These parents had a large family of children, the two first-born being twins, that died in infancy. Thomas A. Bailey was born September 27, 1825; he married Miss Kate Edmonds, and died at his home in Todd County, June 14, 1880. He was a very successful farmer and a Mason of high order. John A. Bailey died at the age of thirty years, unmarried; he was a graduate of the Nashville College, and served this county as Surveyor. Ann S. married Clinton Halsell, and died in 1883, leaving three children; Beersheba died in early womanhood, unmarried. Elizabeth married Elliott Halsell, and died in Missouri; in 1882, leaving six children; James Bailey died in early man-hood; Emma is the wife of James C. Riley; S. A. Bailey, a farmer in Christian County, married Miss Lizzie Lane; D. L. Bailey, whose name heads this sketch. D. L. Bailey was reared on the old homestead; married November 25, 18.75, Miss Ella R. Edwards, daughter of Peyton G. and Mary S. Edwards (nee Graham). Ella R. was born May 5, 1855. They had one child-Laura-born May 2, 1877, and died December 25, of same year. Mr. Bailey is an energetic, practical farmer, an extensive stock dealer, and owns a farming interest of 1,000 acres of land. He also is a member of the A. F. & A. M. and both he and his wife are members of the Reformed Church. Of the ancestors of Mrs. Bailey mention is made in the history of Allensville Precinct.
