He was born September 20, 1795, and was the descendant of an old and wealthy English family, who emigrated from the mother country with their kinsman, Lord Baltimore, in 1629, bringing with them the material for the erection of their ancestral halls, built at what was then known as the Old Wood Yard, on the banks of the Potomac, where they remained in good preservation till 1862, when they were destroyed by fire. After having amassed quite a fortune, he moved to Todd County-then Christian-in 1847, where he married and resided till his death, September 23, 1873. John E. Hall's father was Edward Hall, an early settler in Todd County. Subject is a Baptist and his wife a Presbyterian.
