1766 Baptisms

The following data is extracted from Church Record of Old Ebenezer Church, Effingham County, Georgia.

Salome, daughter of Samuel Kraus and Judith his wife, was born Jan. 3, 1766 in the preceding night and baptized on this day. Sponsors were David Steiner and Anna Margaret his wife.

Phoebe, Hangleiter's Negro girl, was born Jan. -, 1766, and baptized on the 11th. Sponsors were John Hangleiter and his wife.

Obadiah, son of John George Pechtle and his wife Eva Barbara, was born Jan. 29, 1766, and baptized on the 30th. Sponsors were Mr. John Ad. Treutle and his wife, also John Jacob Kronberger.

John, Joseph Schubtrein's Negro boy, was born Jan. 30, 1766, and baptized. Sponsors were Jos. Schubtrein and his wife Mary.

Christian, a Negro boy, born on Mr. Rabenhorst's plantation, Jan. 14, 1766, was baptized on the 17th.

Simeon and Judith, Negro twins, were born Jan. 18th on Mr. Rabenhorst's land, and baptized the same day. Mr. Rabenhorst and his wife were sponsors for these three children.

Obadiah, son of Thomas Schweighofer and Hannah his wife, was born Feb. 4, 1766 and baptized. Sponsors were' Ruprecht Zimmerebener, John George Zittrauer and Mrs. Elizabeth Kogler.

Gideon, son of John Mart. Paulitsch and his wife, was born Feb. 4, 1766 in the evening and baptized on the 5th. Sponsors were John Casp. Wertsch, Rottenberger, who were represented by Daniel Schubtrein and Jac. Metzcher, and Mrs. Boltzius.

Judith, Mr. Kiefer's Negro girl, was born Jan. 29, 1766, and baptized Feb. 6. Mr. Kiefer and Hannah his daughter were sponsors.

Hannah Elizabeth, daughter of John Klein and his wife Christiana, was born in the night before Feb. 11, 1766 and baptized the same day. Sponsors were John Gugel, the wife of Jac. Gnann and Mrs. Deininger.

David, son of David Steiner and his wife A. Marg., was born Feb. 20, 1766 early towards 3 o'clock, and baptized the same day.

Salome, a Negro girl, was born Feb. 22, 1766, and baptized the 26th. Sponsors were Pastor Lemcke and his daughter Joh. Christiana.

Hannah, daughter of Mr. Treutle and his wife, was born Feb. 26, 1766 in the night, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were John Jac. Kronberger, Mrs. Boltzius and Mrs. Wertsch.

John, son of John Gruber and his wife Mary Magdalene, was born March 4, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were John Flerl jun. and Hannah Elizabeth his wife.

Lydia, daughter of Lucas Ziegler and his wife Salome, was born on Jubilate Sunday, April 20, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were G. Faul and Rebecca his wife and Agnes Waldhauer.

N. B.-Young Mrs. Fetzer gave birth to a daughter on June 12, 1766, which died immediately after receiving lay baptism.

N. B.-Mrs. Rentz gave birth to a stillborn daughter, June 30, 1766.

John Gottlieb, child of John George Zittrauer and his wife Catharine, was born July 8, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were Mr. Treutle, Mr. Wertsch and his wife.

John Jacob, son of John Martin Greiner and Mary his wife, was born in the night before July 28, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were Mr. John Casp. Wertsch, Jacob Mackh in Abercorn, who was represented by Isr. Leimberger, and Cath. Barb. Lackner.

Salome, daughter of Nichol. Schubtrein and his wife Anna Mary, was born July 3o, and baptized on the 31st. Sponsors were S. Kraus and his wife Judith, also M. Schubtrein.

Nathan, a Negro boy, was born Aug. 7, 1766, and baptized on the 8th. Sponsors were the owners, namely, Pastor Lemcke and his wife.

David, son of John Pflueger and his wife Barbara, was born Aug. 27, 1766, and baptized on the 28th. Sponsors were John George Heckel, John George Zittrauer and Catharine his wife.

Jacob, son of Jacob Gnann and his wife Margaret, was born Sept. 21, the 17th Sunday after Trinity, and baptized on the 22nd. Sponsors were Ruprecht Zimmerebener, George Faul and Rebecca his wife. In their absence they were represented by Andr. Seckinger, Caspar Waldhauer and Elizabeth Margaret Kronberger.

Henry Lewis, son of Urban Buntz and his wife, was born Sept. 23, 1766, and baptized on the 24th. Sponsors were Ruprecht Zimmerebener, represented by his son-in-law David Steiner, Lewis Buntz and Mrs. H. E. Wertsch.

Mary, daughter of George Deininger and his wife Emma Barbara, was born Sept. 27, late about 10, and baptized the 28th, 1766. Sponsors were John Paulus and his wife, also Mrs. Rahn.

Christina, child of John George Buntz and his wife Barbara, was born early on Oct. 4, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were Christ. Bidenbach, the wife of Lewis Buntz and the wife of G. Gnann.

Anna Margaret, daughter of Lewis Winckler and his wife Anna Mary, resident in Purysburg, was born July 10, 1766, and baptized Oct. 15th. Sponsors were Frederick Rester and his wife Margaret.

Daniel, daughter (sic) of Matthias Gugel and his wife, was born in the night before Nov. 2, 1766, and baptized on this day. It was the 23rd Sunday after Trinity. Sponsors were Zimmerebener.

Mary, daughter of John Gravenstein and his wife Catharine, was born Nov. 4, 1766 in the evening, and baptized on the 6th. Sponsors were Lewis Buntz and his wife.

Salome, daughter of John George Schneider and his wife Barbara, was born Aug. 21, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were Smith Faul and his wife.

Bartholomew, child of Daniel Mollet and his wife Mary, was born Oct. 2o, 1766 in Purysburg, and baptized Nov. 12, 1766. Sponsors were the father himself, now a widower, and Rudolph Peninger and his wife.

Frederick, son of Patrick Onyl and his wife, was born Nov. 8, 1766, and baptized on the 9th. Mrs. Mich. Rieser had given him lay baptism, which was confirmed by Mr. Rabenhorst in the presence of Schleich, his wife and Mrs. Rieser, just mentioned. He soon died on Nov. 10th, and was quietly buried.

John Christopher, son of Mr. G. Lewis Roth and his wife, was born in the night between Dec. 8-9, 1766, and baptized on the l0th. Sponsors were Mr. Chr. Kraemer and his wife.

Shulamith, Simon Reuter's Negro girl, was born Dec. 2o, 1766, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were the owner and Dorothea Reuter.

John, son of John Schneider and his wife Catharine, was born Dec. 29, 1766 early, and baptized the same day. Sponsors were Ruprecht Zimmerebener, Samuel Kraus and Judith his wife.
