Redfield, Orlian Scott

     A spirit of undaunted enterprise characterizes Orlian Scott Redfield in the conduct of his extensive business interests. He is proprietor of two grocery houses in Muskogee and is one of the proprietor successful merchants of the city, a point to which he has attained by reason of indefatigable industry, intelligently directed.
     He started out in life without special advantages and steadily, step by step, has worked his way upward. He has also found opportunity for cooperation in those activities which make for progress and improvement in the community, or which constitute a source of worth to the individual, his labors for his fellowmen being based upon a broad humanitarian spirit.
     Orlian Scott Redfield was born in Humboldt, Kansas, on the 5th of October, 1879, and is a son of Orrin Sylvester and Sarah (Hiens) Redfield. The father was a grocer, conducting business along that line for many years.
     Orlian Scott Redfield obtained a public school education and in early boyhood gained considerable knowledge of the grocery trade by reason of the fact that his father was conducting a store of that character. In 1908 he became associated with the grocery interests of Muskogee, entering the Pure Food Grocery in association with his brother, John Clark Redfield, and then further extending his activities and interests by the purchase of the Brown C. O. D. Grocery house in 1915. In the following year Mr. Redfield purchased the interest of his brother in the business and is now sole owner of two stores one on Broadway, and the home store located at No. 404 West Okmulgee street.
     His business has steadily developed. His keen sagacity has quickly grasped every salient point that has to do with the development of the grocery trade in the city and he has put forth every possible effort to please his patrons, while his straightforward dealing and reliable methods have been strong features in the attainment of his present-day success.
     On the 15th of March, 1903, Mr. Redfield was united in marriage to Miss Lucretia Pinson of Ottawa, Kansas. She is a member of the Christian Science church. Mr. Redfield turns to baseball, to fishing and to Boy Scout work for his recreation. He is the vice president of the Boy Scouts of Muskogee and is doing splendid work in this connection, in fostering the high standards of manliness and conduct which characterize the organization, which does not seek to repress but seeks to direct the energies of the youth of the land.      Fraternally Mr. Redfield is connected with the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and in trade circles he has membership in the Retailers Association, of which he is one of the directors. He belongs to the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, which is indicative of his interest in all that pertains to the up building and welfare of the city. The activities and interests of his life are well proportioned, making him an evenly balanced man and one who is today recognized as a forceful factor in the city in which he makes his home.
